This past weekend I went to my cousin Emily's baby shower. My mother and I attempted to make a baby out of an outfit and stuff it with gifts like burp cloths and onsies. I received one of these at my baby shower and thought it was a darling idea. It came out cute but not as nice as the original my cousin Karey made for me! Karey you'll have to tell how you made yours! :)
The picture on the baby is of Emily.
Baby Blocks
I was really feeling crafty and needed a project to do, so this was the perfect opportunity. I had seen someone on Martha Stewart make baby blocks and thought how cute I could do that!
I had extra wood 4x4 from a balance beam I have made recently for my daughter, so I really wanted my husband to cut that up for me but I couldn't convince him to. Note to self: next project learn to use his saws! So I wound up buying the blocks at Michaels, not as much fun.
Next I sanded them so that the would have soft corners and edges. My daughter helped me cut the squares out using my new cricut. Love it! I bought 2 inch blocks so I cut the paper into 1 3/4 inch squares. I tried to coordinate the paper to the nursery items on the registry.
They are going to name her Stella so I wanted to put that on the front. I really wanted to use patterned paper for the letters but it just faded into the background. I ended up using a brown to match the block that I had first painted in the same color. I cut the letters to be 1 1/4 inches.
Last I attached the paper and sealed it all in using Mod Podge. Before I sealed it in I lightly distressed the block and the edges of the paper with an emery board. I did two coats to seal it all in. I have just started using Mod Podge and am still learning all the wonderful things that you can do with it and I love it.
Any excuse to do something crafty I will. I am not the best out there and never will claim to be, but I like doing hands on things and try to involve my kids as much as possible. I have two little darlings Haley 3 and Chase 1. Haley was able to help paint the blocks and cut the paper with the cricut, she loves pressing buttons!!
